More than 100 volunteers got down and dirty Saturday as they helped plant 27 trees along Coyote Creek Trail.

The event, a collaborative effort by the city of Milpitas, its Community Advisory Commission and San Jose-based nonprofit Our City Forest, also saw members of the Milpitas Executive Lions Club pick up shovels to help.

The trees were donated by Our City Forest, whose volunteers showed others how to properly plant them.

In December, 65 trees were planted along Coyote Creek Trail in a similar effort.

Lions Club Secretary MariCris Benitez said the event was a success and the participation of Mayor Jose Esteves and Vice Mayor Carmen Montano was one of the highlights.
