District 4-C6 partnered with the City of Milpitas Recreation Department to sponsor “Celebrating Differences” an event for youth and adults with differing abilities on Sunday, April 24 from 2-5 pm at the Milpitas Community Center 457 E Calaveras Blvd Milpitas CA.

Join for an afternoon of fun individual sports challenges and games with your family in an inclusive environment.
Activities planned are for individuals 7 and over with disabilities.

Here are some of the indoor and outdoor games that the attendees can participate to enjoy and have lots of fun.

FREE HEALTH SCREEING AVAILABLE:
DISTRICT 4-C6 LIONS will sponsor The A.J. Robinson Mobile Screening Unit — affectionately referred to as “The A.J.”—- is a mobile trailer outfitted for providing health screenings that may highlight risks for blindness or vision problems.
The trailer is also outfitted to be used for hearing screenings. The range of screenings that can be provided depends on the skills of the Volunteer that staff it. You can have your height, weight, blood pressure, resting respiratory rate, and blood sugar measured. No diagnostic procedures are performed but leave with a record of the findings that they can bring to their doctors or health professionals for follow-up.

Milpitas Executive Lions Club members will cook and sell Hot DOGS in front of Fry’s Electronics located at 550 E Brokaw Road, San Jose CA on Friday, May 13, 2016 Saturday, May 14, 2016 and Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Visit us and invite your family and friends to buy hot dogs on these days. Hot dogs and drinks will be sold for only $0.25 each.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit our charitable projects such as Lions Eye Foundation,Lions Clubs International Foundation, AJ Robinson Health Van, City of Hope, American Diabetes Association and many more.

Do you know any high school students who maybe interested to join the Student Speakers Contest? And a Chance to win $21,000 Scholarship? This year the Lions of California Multiple District Four are proud to sponsor the 79th Student Speakers Contest.

The challenging topic for this year’s contest is “Liberty And Justice For All”-What does it mean to you?

Open to all high school students grades 9-12. Eligible students shall be those of the above grades and under the age of twenty-one as of February 22, 2016.

AWARDS:
Over $21,000 can be won through multiple levels of competition. The Foundation will provide $103,500 total awards for the 2015-16 contest.

Club Contests – The Club shall present $100.00 to the winner and $25.00 to each finalist.
(who completes minimum time).
Zone Contests – The District shall present $125.00 to the winner only.
Region Contests – The District shall present $175.00 to the winner only.
Paid by the Lions 4th District Student Speakers
Foundation Inc:
District Contests – The fifteen winners shall each
receive a $4,500.00 scholarship.
Area Contests – The four winners shall each receive a $6,500.00 scholarship.
Final Contest – The winner of the MD-4 Contest shall receive a $10,000.00 scholarship.

As part our community service during Martin Luther King Day our club is seeking donations of scarf, hat or both & warm coats to give to the homeless of all ages. As well as can goods and any non perishable food items. They will be donated to Sacred Heart Community Service and Milpitas Food Pantry for distribution to those in need.

Another highlight would be the Lions Clubs International District 4-C6 Environmental Photo Contest.

Learn about applying for Financial Aide from our student speaker Anthony Abril is a fourth-year student at UC Berkeley studying Sociology and Education. Currently, Anthony serves as the Financial Aid Division Director in the Student Advocate’s Office, a student government office where he directs a team of caseworkers who help students when they have financial aid problems at the university. Also, Anthony works as an analyst at Education Trust-West, where he analyzes data for projects related to low-income students and students of color. Next year, Anthony will be working as an Associate Consultant at the Bridgespan Group in San Francisco, a non-profit consulting group that supports mission-driven organizations and philanthropists.

Milpitas Tree Planting 2015 with the City of Milpitas Community Advisory Commission

Milpitas Executive Lions Club will join in the City of Milpitas and Community Advisory Commission Tree Planting event.

It’s mission is to enhance our community by planting more trees in Milpitas. This will improve our air quality, conserve energy, provide shade, and beautify ourcommunity.

This year Our City Forest, which has donated 80-100 trees to be planted on Saturday December 19, 2015. Hundreds of volunteers will gather at #2 Ranch Drive at 9am to 1pm to help us in this event.

The volunteer based Community Advisory Commission is dedicated towards the citizens of Milpitas and the community we live in.

No gardening experience is required! Training will be provided on the day of the event. Although, we have gloves and tools, you may also bring your own. Either way, please email CAC Commissioner Mike Bilbao at mbilbao9547@yahoo.com or call (408) 497-7754 to confirm your attendance.
Throughout 2016, we will have several tree planting events, so
you are welcome to participate all year long.

    Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) Helmet Walk For Concussion Awareness

    Milpitas Executive Lions Club is supporting the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) Helmet Walk . The F4CP has a program called TIPS, Towards Injury Prevention in Sports (http://www.f4cp.com/athletic-tips/). Our student chapter is planning a Helmet Walk For Concussion Awareness. Participants are encouraged to wear a helmet of any kind and walk in the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K behind the Palmer Spine raising awareness to concussion/brain injury. If you need a Helmet to wear please let know as soon as possible and we will locate one for you to wear. Dr. Feinberg is going to let us use some of his old helmets so we will have some extra available, but definitely bring one with you if you can.

    We have a few steps to go through to get registered for Turkey Trot/Helmet Walk:

    **Remember that the Registration also includes a timing chip, numbered bib, & a Turkey Trot t-shirt (as supplies last). The total is $47.74.

    If paying the registration is out of your budget, then please contact me ASAP. If you want to participate in helping us raise concussion/brain injury awareness, but aren’t in a position to pay the registration, then please contact me ASAP so we can figure something out.

    Palmer has participated in this event for several years where students and faculty carry/wear the Palmer Spine while walking the 5K.     Dear Helmet Walkers & Turkey Trotters,

    The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot/Helmet Walk is coming up (11/26/15)!

    We will all be meeting in the parking lot across the street from SAP Pavilion at West Santa Clara St. and Montgomery. Please arrive between 8:00a and 8:15a (or earlier if you’re worried about finding a parking place.) Look for the big white Palmer truck.

    Please wear blue jeans and a black or navy blue jacket, if possible. That will give us a nice, uniform look to match those walking with the Spine.

    You can expect to be done with our 5K around 11:00a

    ALSO I encourage you to bring 5 canned goods for the Can Do” challenge food drive which will be donated to needy families!

    We still have room for more Walkers so please help spread the word!

    9th Annual Milpitas Executive Lions Club Make Difference Day Event
    10 AM

    The 9th Annual Make a Difference Day Event is the Milpitas Executive Lions Club signature service project. Held Sunday, October 25, from 10AM to 4PM at Season’s Marketplace in Milpitas, CA. There was a record number of health and community service displays at this years event. Something for everyone.

    Free flu shots was available as well as Blood pressure, blood sugar, vision and hearing screening given by Volunteer Registered Nurses.

    Recycle that old computer and TV with free e-waste recycling!

    And collection of old eyeglasses for recycling at the Lions In Sight warehouse to be given to those in need in other countries.

    Another successful Make a Difference Day Event for the community. Thank you all for your participation and support!

The event was very successful with over $25,000 raised for this year’s camp. Many thanks to all of the clubs who donated outstanding raffle baskets and to all of you who bid on the silent auction items. Without all of your support for coming and for those who helped either before or at the event, the event would not have been nearly as successful.DYF is again hosting us at the Lions Day at Camp de los Ninos so you can see for yourself the camp in action of how our donations are being used. It is a day that you will always remember of how “We Serve” to help kids with Type 1 Diabetes learn how to successfully manage their lives.DYF needs to know how many are coming by 8/7/15 and how many are staying for dinner. Milpitas Night Out on August 6, 2015 in celebration of ” America’s Night Out Against Crime” in collaboration with the Milpitas Police Department and the Milpitas Community Advisory Commission as well as the Milpitas Fire Department. This is a great opportunity to promote neighborhood spirit and police‐community partnerships in our fight for a safer community. There are going to be block parties throughout the city of Milpitas. It was an enjoyable program that benefits the community.

Interested to know about PediaVision, a Spot Vision Screener. It is a handheld, portable device designed to help quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age through adult.

Get trained to be able to be a volunteer screener in one of our Health Fairs. Lion Rick Silveria, President of the AJ Robinson Foundation will give a presentation and training on the PediaVision.

The mission of the Lions Sight Preservation, Awareness and Action program is to provide programs and assistance to aid people who have partial or complete loss of sight, and to work to eliminate preventable and reversible blindness.

Our guest speaker is Lions Clubs International Past Multiple District 4 Council Chair Derek Ledda, a graduate of Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service and received his Juris Doctor degree from the UC Davis School of Law. He was a lawyer for over 30 years, helping rural poor people, enforcing labor laws, protecting vulnerable residents in state licensed elderly, disabled, foster care and child care facilities before finally retiring as a Deputy General Council 4 from the California Department of Education. As a professional he is very qualified to help guide us set priorities, focus our energy and resources to ensure we are working towards the achievement of our mission and goals.
